BAC Calculator (Blood Alcohol Concentration)

It's natural for clients to wonder whether they were really as intoxicated as the state's breath-test machines indicated. The blood alcohol concentration (BAC) is the amount of alcohol in your bloodstream, and the more you drink, the higher your BAC rises. But two people can drink the same amount over the same time period and have dramatically different BACs. Your body size, whether or not you drank on an empty stomach, your percentage of body fat, and your sex affect your BAC. A woman almost always will have a higher BAC than a man who has consumed the same amount of alcohol.

This calculator will give you an idea of what your BAC was in a given circumstance. You'll need to know your weight, the number of hours that you were drinking, how much you drank in fluid ounces, and what percentage of alcohol your drinks had. Use this guide for help filling in the boxes:

Alcohol Percentage:
LIGHT BEER: 3.0 percent
BEER: 3.5 percent
BEER - MICROBREW: 6.0 percent
WINE: 12-18 percent
CHAMPAGNE: 15-20 percent
SHOT HARD ALCOHOL: 30-50 percent

Ounces Consumed:
ONE BEER: 12 ounces
ONE GLASS WINE/CHAMPAGNE: 4 ounces
ONE SHOT: 1.5 ounces
ONE MIXED DRINK: 2 ounces (alcohol only)
ONE DRY MARTINI: 2 ounces (alcohol only)

This BAC calculator is a rough estimate and is not intended to provide legal advice. The results should not be used to infer anyone's ability to drive or perform any task.
